Community charter
This charter states the standards Chapter IVXX should use when building systems, setting policy, and making decisions.
Chapter IVXX exists for the people who participate in it. The community should remain the primary beneficiary of the conversations, knowledge, history, and culture its members create.
The community is not the product.
Chapter IVXX will attempt to collect only the information reasonably necessary to operate the service.
Privacy should be considered during the design of systems, features, integrations, and policies rather than added afterward.
We will avoid unnecessary behavioral analytics, advertising trackers, marketing pixels, cross-site tracking, third-party profiling, invasive telemetry, and identity collection.
Where technical logging is necessary for security, abuse prevention, authentication, or operation of the platform, we will document what is collected, why it is collected, and how long it is retained.
The goal is not to know everything possible about members. The goal is to know as little as necessary to operate the community responsibly.
Moderation exists to protect the community, not control it. Rules, roles, meaningful moderation actions, and paths for review should be understandable to members.
Members should be able to understand operating costs, infrastructure, governance, funding, and significant changes, except where disclosure would expose private or security-sensitive information.
The collective experience of growers has value. Chapter IVXX should give that knowledge room to be preserved, discussed, challenged, and improved.
Chapter IVXX should not depend on advertisers, sponsors, affiliate revenue, data monetization, or engagement-based business models.
